TERESA HASH DOBBINS


Teresa has worked in the court system for over 14 years. She was first elected Circuit Court Clerk for Powhatan County in a special election held in February, 2014. Her previous experience in the court system began in 2001 in the Powhatan Combined Court as the principal court clerk in the Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court.

She worked for six years in the Powhatan Circuit Court for William E. Maxey Jr., where she was principal court clerk and assistant probate clerk. Prior to being elected as Clerk, she worked in Chesterfield County Circuit Court as a principal court clerk.

She graduated from Powhatan County High School, attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., and has a legal secretary degree from Braxton School of Business in Richmond, Va.  Through the VCCA she has attended and completed all six courses with the national Center for State Courts, Institute for Court Management including: Managing Court Financial Resources, Managing Human Resources, Court Performance Standards: CourTools, Fundamental Issues of Caseflow Management, Purposes & Responsibilities of Courts and Managing Technology Projects & Technology Resources. She is the first Clerk to have completed the Institute for Court Management’s Certified Court Administrator Program and the VCCA’s Career Development Program requirements.  She is now a Certified Master Clerk and a Certified Court Manager.
